What is Smithsonian Networks™?
Smithsonian Networks (SNI/SI Networks L.L.C.) is a joint venture between Showtime Networks Inc. and the Smithsonian Institution, formed to create channels featuring programs largely inspired by the assets of the Smithsonian Institution, the world's largest museum complex. If I do not get Smithsonian Channel now, when will it be available in my area?
Smithsonian Channel is available nationally via satellite on DirecTV. If your cable or telephone provider does not carry the channel, please let them know of your interest by calling, e-mailing or writing.

Are you only available as an HD Channel?
We are also available in standard definition and On Demand, depending on your service provider.

What is the Smithsonian Institution?
The Smithsonian Institution was founded in 1846 by an Act of Congress with its mission as "the increase and diffusion of knowledge." Smithsonian Institution consists of 19 Museums (including the top three most visited museums in the world) and the National Zoo. There are over 150 affiliated museums in 39 states, Panama and Puerto Rico, and traveling exhibitions throughout America that visit over 100 museums every year. Smithsonian has 700 world-class scientists on staff and nine research centers around the globe; and over 136 million artifacts — from Dorothy's ruby slippers to the Lunar Orbiter.
